Tom Joyce – a personal profile

Since 1981, I have lived near the village of Rosenallis, on the northern slopes of the Slieve Bloom mountains in the centre of Ireland. My life is heavily influenced by this mountain environment and my exploration of its moorlands, forests and river valleys provide the inspiration for much of my work.

However, as the name suggests, my ancestral home is in the West of Ireland, where my family has had a long association with the sea. I would like to think that my seascapes capture some of the atmosphere and vitality of the west coast, to which I am so strongly attracted.

Most of my work is ‘oil on canvas’ but I enjoy experimenting with new mediums, techniques and styles. In 1995 I published my book ‘Bladhma - Walks of Discovery in Slieve Bloom’ and the illustrations for this were either ‘pen and ink’ or watercolour.
